Canonical Tags - Important concept in SEO

Sometimes you have a really great content in the site, and you want refer this content at several other places, but a fear always remain, will google penalize me for duplicate content. Then no worries- Google respect the tag - canonical tagging.

The term Canonical with its several meanings- one says authorized, recognized , accepted and yes that is true, google allows you to make your one preferred url version public and put the same under canonical tags at all the different places where you publish the same content.

What this means? Lets take an example of your website article about new research in diabetes medicines. Now you have the same article content being used on your product order page. So to prevent you from getting penalized from google, you can simply put link on your order summary page with the url of research article. Simply it means that you are trying to tell google the same content is being published on my main article page.

For techies:
Format of canonical tags: < link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/product.php?item=swedish-fish" >

What will happen if all websites are search engine optimized?

I always ask this question what will happen if all websites will search engine optimized? Google never disclosed it's mantra for search engine optimization . But still researchers came up with several theories on SEO. And now that everyone has started appling the seo techniques to their websites the time will come when all the websites will have metatags , defined architecture, enriched content, excellent linkages etc etc . What will happen at that point ? How will google rank the pages? I donot have the answers now. Who knows may be google engineers and scientists are busy writing new algorithm . But one thing as a information seeker I can say that future will demand for great queries from us. What string you will use for your search will have key role in finding relevant results . The algorithm will equire more robust keyword match search models . May be artificial intelligence to know what user meant for any query ? Future .

Murdock may block google searches

This is an interesting announcement from billionaire Rupert Murdock for blocking google from using their website content in search results. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8351331.stm When google is spending its each nano second in making search robust.. the comments like these by content owners can be scary. But if you think from content owners perspective, I believe they do have a situation where they get a nightmare to find out ways for monetizing their online content. As people liek us are so much used to get free online content, would we accept this change? WHo knows? But think about this, we do spend money to get newspaper, so why should we expect the same content to be available free online?
Its interesting -- so waiting to see if other news companies do get inspired by Murdock.

Future of search?

We had a guest lecture( Mike Grehan-Incisive Search thanks for the information ) today talking about future of search . I think the answer I got is a one word : real time search. And what is available is apps. But I believe that apps is not the end of the realtime search .
It really require intelligent solutions. It requires understanging us. Understanding what we need? I think the basic question comes from why do we search ? To get something what we need ? If something in the world start serving me exactly what I need? I think that would be something I would need.

Apps is quarter way to meet my need.there is still long way to cover.
